Original lithograph by British artist Philip SUTTON, 1968. Portrait of a woman in bold orange against a green and yellow background. Born in 1928 in Dorset, England, Philip SUTTON is best known for his large, vividly coloured depictions of landscapes and people. He travelled extensively during his long career as an artist, with destinations that inspired him including Spain, France, Italy, Australia, and Fiji.
From 1948 to 1953 he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where he returned to teach from 1954 to 1963. In 1988, SUTTON was elected a Royal Academician, all throughout holding many solo exhibitions in the UK and around the world.
His life and work have been described through various books and documentaries, such as the 1965 “Private View”, with photographs by Lord Snowden of the painter and his family, or the 2008 “Philip Sutton Life and Work” published by the Royal Academy, to name a few.
